Congo week will run from Oct 17-23, 2010 as a time to Break the Silence and raise awareness about the humanitarian crisis that is going on in the Congo. Despite the lack of media coverage about the crisis and as a result, the lack of awareness by many Americans, that has not stopped a growing movement from taking hold at the grassroots level. Local NGO’s such as Friends for Congo and the Enough Project are reaching out to communities all over the globe, from the diaspora to DC to encourage people to get involved and become aware.
Host a movie, organize an event, lobby political leaders…do whatever you feel compelled to make positive change happen and to make your voice count. We are fortunate enough to live in a country where bottom up change is actually quite relevant and quite effective. I think if you ever doubted the power one voice has as well as that voice joined to the power of many, you would have to think again when considering where change has happened throughout history and most importantly where it began. With one lone voice.

“We must be the change we wish to see in the world”
